Duncan’s original craft lager, brewed continuously since 2006 in nano-sized batches at our iconic brewpub in the heart of downtown. This crowd-pleasing and classic is easy drinking with a touch of sweet malt and grassy/herbal hop aroma. This premium lager is made from a 100% barley base, traditional Austrian lager yeast, and BC grown hops.
Hops
We use a blend of BC-grown hops, including Saaz and Mt. Rainier, to create a delicate, grassy and herbal aroma. These flowers contribute a complex layer of pine resin, spice, and soft citrus without adding heavy bitterness. The result is a beautifully aromatic pour that finishes with a clean, woody snap and a hint of green apple freshness.
Yeast
The soul of this beer is a traditional Austrian lager strain, prized for its ability to produce a remarkably clean and natural flavor. As it cold-conditions, the yeast refines the beer’s profile, slightly accentuating the malty sweetness while ensuring a smooth mouthfeel. It is the key to the “bright” character and the persistent, fluffy white head in every glass.
Malt
Built on a premium 100% barley base, this lager blends Canadian and European malts for a sophisticated grain profile. You’ll find clean notes of fresh bread and toasted pretzel, with a subtle nutty sweetness that lingers on the palate. It provides a light-bodied foundation that remains crisp and easy-drinking while offering more depth than your average lager.
Fermentation
Brewed in nano-sized batches at our historic downtown location, this lager undergoes a true cold-fermentation process. This patient method allows the herbal hop notes and sweet malts to meld into a perfectly balanced, light-bodied brew. It’s a meticulous approach that ensures a crisp, vegan-friendly finish that has made it a community staple since 2006.
